Alda Dizdari Delights at Stradivari Trust Concert
7th January 2019
The WeLoveMusicians team were delighted to attend a concert last week, organised by The Stradivari Trust and headlining the renowned violinist, Alda Dizdari. The Albanian born musician has been described by Gramophone magazine as a ‘one to watch’, and it was clear to Tuesday’s audience why Alda is held in such high esteem by the industry.
Hosted in the University of Cambridge’s Hughes Hall, the concert featured Alda performing three epic pieces, accompanied by pianist Tom Blach. Kicking off with Szymanowski’s Mythes, the duo then played a rousing performance of Elgar’s Violin Sonata in E minor, Op. 82. Elgar’s music appears particularly close to Alda Dizdari’s heart, being the subject of her book ‘Kiss me Again: A Memoir of Elgar in Unusual Places’. The account details the author’s journey performing Elgar’s concerto in her native Albania plus other Eastern European cities. The concert concluded with a captivating rendition of Ravel’s Tzigane, sparking rapturous applause from the audience as Alda and Tom took a bow.
The Stradivari Trust is a Cambridge based charity which helps musicians by providing financial support to acquire instruments. Through setting up schemes involving syndicates of contributors, the Trust ensures that its talented musicians have access to the finest instruments and accessories available. Through the mechanism of The Stradivari Trust, Nigel Brown has helped around 40 of this country’s string players to have use of the instrument of their choice. The total value of the instruments at today’s prices is in the region of £40m. WeLoveMusicians has committed to support The Stradivari Trust, aiding the Trust’s musicians and their performances at events such as last Tuesday’s.
Speaking of the concert and WeLoveMusician’s involvement with The Stradivari Trust, Shaun Lenton, director at One Broker, which WeLoveMusicians is a part of, said "Listening to Alda’s beautiful performance was a truly breath-taking experience. Alda so obviously has such passion for her music and it was fantastic to hear her play. By protecting these precious instruments through our insurance scheme, we are contributing to the continued strength of Cambridge’s music scene, which is very close to the heart of WeLoveMusicians".
