Another week of One Broker Norwich’s bake off has been completed. Week 2’s criteria was ‘free-from’ bakes. Free-from baking is notoriously difficult. It calls for omitting any ingredients that contain common allergens or avoided-foods, such as gluten, dairy, meat or eggs.

Entries for week 2 included a carrot cake, a Victoria sandwich, chocolate brownies, a lemon & raspberry mess, vegetable samosas, orange almond cake with passionfruit icing, meringue kisses and peanut butter cookies. While most entries were either gluten free, dairy free or vegan, the chocolate brownies impressively ticked all three boxes without compromising on taste, texture or looks.

Filling in for Samantha Read, Scott Jarvis joined Ashley Jones as this week’s judges. The judges have spoken, week 2’s star baker is: Jo Baker with her meringue kisses!

The people’s choice winner for tastiest entry goes to Karen Wilson for her vegetable samosas, while the people’s choice winner for best looking entry goes to Kerry Patterson.

Coming up: week 3, savoury week. We look forward to announcing the total amount raised for Macmillan at the end of our competition.
