Following a staff vote for a local charity, the One Broker group is supporting Blood Bikes as its Charity of the Year.
The organisation is run entirely by unpaid volunteers and specialises in transporting blood, medical equipment and donated breast milk to NHS patients, providing an essential, life-saving service. Blood Bikes serves the communities of East Anglia.
Following the news of being nominated as One Broker Charity of the Year, Cindy Dickerson, Chairman of the Cambridge area of Blood Bikes, said "The Bloodrunners are delighted to have been selected by the employees of One Broker as its chosen Charity and we are looking forward to working closely together. This year we hit our 4000th run since starting in 2010, a very important achievement for us".
Norfolk branch Treasurer, Keith Grisedale’s comments emphasised this "The need for SERV Norfolk’s services has grown from 60 runs in 2011 to over 1000 last year and I expect it to be nearly 1500 this year so support from businesses like One Broker is crucial".
Managing Director, Robin Plaster, added "It’s great to be supporting Blood Bikes, especially as they are local to our three offices. One Broker likes to be part of the community and the team is excited to really get involved".

On Sunday the 4th of June, One Broker’s very own Famous 5 cycled the Norwich 50/100, raising money for the British Heart Foundation, the event organiser’s selected charity.
Setting off from The Forum, they headed off in the direction of Holkham Hall, taking in the dazzling North Norfolk coastline including Walcott, Mundesley and Sheringham before circling back through picturesque landscapes to Aylsham. Crossing the finish line in the early afternoon at Norwich’s Bishopsgate, the cyclists looked understandably weary following their 7 hour ride but appeared to have enjoyed their day.
Henry Plaster, Trainee Broking Technician who is currently working on a new scheme for the One Broker group, One Guarantee, said "At times it was tough going but we have had a brilliant day. Cycling in our One Broker jerseys while raising money for the British Heart Foundation has been really gratifying but I must say that when I go back to work tomorrow, I’ll be avoiding the stairs!".

One of East Anglia’s most noted insurance broking groups, One Broker, has donated £813 to the Papworth Trust, a charity that supports the lives of thousands of individuals with disabilities.
The cheque was presented to the Trust by Director, Phil Thorpe, representing NWBIB Ltd in Cambridge who are part of the One Broker Group. Handing over the donation in the glorious garden in the Cambridge Centre, he said: "It is a very proud moment in our history to be supporting a charity that does such amazing work in the local area, right on the door step of our office". The funds were raised by the company’s WeLoveTenants scheme, with £1 being donated to Papworth for every new policy that was bought online.
Founded 100 years ago in Cambridge as a centre to manage tuberculosis, the Papworth Trust has worked continuously with disabled individuals, supporting thousands of people, their families, and carers over the years. Offering a range of activities, including everything from cooking and cake decorating, to film making and song writing, the Trust’s Cambridge Centre on Hawthorne Way offers a retreat of fun and entertainment to people with physical, learning or sensory disabilities.
Jo Revitt, Corporate Partnership Fundraiser at Papworth Trust, said: "We are very grateful to everyone connected with One Broker for this very kind and generous way of supporting disabled people living in their community."

On 27 February, the Lord Chancellor confirmed that the Discount Rate, a key component of this calculation concerning future costs, is to be reduced from the current level of 2.5% to -0.75%. The change takes effect from 20 March 2017 and will have a significant impact on the cost of the most serious injury claims. A leading Insurance Company has predicted the overall cost to the industry on all impacted claims outstanding at 20 March is to be £7bn, with a further additional annual cost of around £1.2bn thereafter.
The change will impact the cost of insurance for products which cover injury claims, mainly Commercial Motor, Employers’, Public and Products Liability insurance. The precise impact will vary depending on a range of factors. But we expect most insurers and particularly those with a large motor based book to increase prices to help cover the cost of these changes. As yet we are uncertain by how much, but increases are expected.
Insurers are engaging with Government to make sure they understand the effect this decision will have on millions of people. Following a meeting between the Chancellor and industry leaders, we welcome their commitment to review the process.
Insurers will continue to make their voice heard to ensure that in the future, personal injury discount rates are set at a level that is fair to both the injured and businesses.
Rest assured we will be ensuring any effect of this proposed change will be minimised as much as possible and we will strive to ensure that clients premiums remain competitive. We will discuss these changes when we see you next, but if you wanted to get clarification now please contact your Account Executive.
